Island plates is one of my favorite map types. If you lower the sea level it can turn into a spindly pangaea, or if you raise it you get a less splintered archipelago. I probably play 80% fractal, 10% primordial, 10% seven seas. yeah it always seemed to me to be the most "realistic" of all the options.

Small Continents I believe is somewhere in between, with several (3-5) equally medium sized masses. i wonder what a TSL map would look like if it accurately reflected the size of the oceans. the world's surface is 70% water. i suspect it'd make naval UU actually useful, but be extremely tedious to play.
